Aren't People Lovely?

Hubs and I are still selling off all our belongings. Well we can't take them with? So. We have stuff listed on anything that is free. Last night we were down to our last £3 which was a bit scary. BUT. Last night my ex brother in law and his lovely wife called around unexpectedly and bought our patio furniture. So pleased it is going to them. They will so enjoy it and they give amazing parties in the summer.

Then a guy drove one hundred and fifty miles to buy a table saw off Hubs. It was the fourth one he had seen and loved it!! It is in great condition and he was so pleased with it.

Then another couple drove through a freezing night for 25 miles because they needed a couch. Theirs is dead. They have had a "heavy" friend sleeping on it and it is wrecked. So with 4 children a wife that is a paramedic and a hubby that works all the hours gods sends, they needed a comfy place to sit. I threw in the "throws" and the cushions too. I am just SO pleased that my stuff is going to people who need it. And I KNOW, I need the money too. But I just want to imagine people getting pleasure out of my stuff.

It makes me happy?

Yep. I understand that. I love giving stuff to folk when you know there's no way they could have that (afford it?) otherwise.

One of the best 'highs', being able to make people happy.

  Indeed. That girl looked so tired. (with four kids?) who would be a paramedic at this time of year, apart from a complete angel? Bless her. I made her hubby sit on the couch ( I can be very assertive if I want) and his face was a picture. Trust me, this is a comfy couch. A couple of cat scratches, but it feels like heaven. So I gave them the furry throw and the cushions and the throw that covers the scratches on the top. And Hubs and her Hubs manouvered it over the fence, and everyone was happy. It cost us £700 four years ago and we sold it for £50. But I can picture them and their girlies cuddled up on it and being so comfy. Ah bless. Pay it forward and it will come back........................

Oh hun, I'm so pleased for you. I've been in that same position--twice. It's so hard when you're forced into selling your possessions...but it does make it that much easier, when someone buys it whom truly needs the item...a lot nicer than some shyster dealer, wheedling a lower price from you--usually a ridiculously lower price, at that!

It is scary being down you your last few dollars or pounds or whatever. I've got 6 dollars between now and Friday, so I know how awful it is..and it always is worse when you run out of something you need, like milk or toilet paper or pet food..then you're scrounging pockets and under sofas for loose change.

Hope things look up for you in the new year, but I know these things take time. You've always got me to sound off to, if you need to, I just want you to know that.

  Thanks Honey. It is lovely to have my cyber friends to talk to and no matter where I go I still get to take you with me. In fact you will probably be my closest neighbour soon. How cool is that? I have spent lots of times diving down the corners of sofa's looking for cash and kind of hope that the lady who bought mine last night finds some loose change too!

It's a great feeling to be able to help someone, and if you get something in return (like money) bonus!

We may have to sell off some of our stuff at some point as we will have no room for it in our respective flats.

I hope 2009 is a good year for you.

Just wanted to say that we did something similar just over a year ago when we decided to move to live in Greece. I hope your move turns out as well as ours did. We have never regretted it for a moment. You sound like a lovely person and as if you deserve a happy contented life. I send you that as a New Year's wish from me. Be happy.

That's good, it's easier to relinquish the belongings and the memories that way. The goods will create new benefits and memories for those that now have them. It is a gift cycle.
